We’re opening today, after a bit of delusion in the past days for the trademark troubles, we decided we wanted to go on, BuildYourUbuntu won’t come to life but now you can create your own unique Ubuntu flavor with CreaLabs YourWay: Ubuntu the way you are.
All the new features are finally merged in the main development truck, the next release will be officially named 2.0 and the logo contest is going beyond my expectations.
My promise for 2.0: I’ll take the time to document every single script and create some example of command line remastering examples.
Because I don’t want software that doesn’t integrates with my desktop but most of all, should I see again shareware/trialware closed source projects and maybe pirated software on the beautiful and free (as FREEDOM, always remember the meaning and the importance of that word) Linux…
I was looking at the Dell Ubuntu PC page and I was counting in my mind… there was something strange about prices, later I found this really good comparison.
Talking about the inspiron model, Ubuntu costs 80$ less than Vista Basic, but Ubuntu PC has Intel graphic while Vista PC has ATI X1400, there’s a price difference between the two cards which turn down the price difference on the whole PC to about 30-40$.
Anyway at least a big step it’s done and buyers can be sure about hardware compatibility and (personal note) the Intel graphic cards do their job the right way (and have open drivers, thank you Intel for that)!
I don’t like captcha systems too much, they take you too much time to type unreadable alphanumeric strings, today I found a new project by Carnegie Mellon University: reCAPTCHA and it looks like this:
I like the interface, it could be nice to have only one captcha system for all websites, so visitors wouldn’t have to understand different UI from a website to another.
reCAPTCHA is a webservice and it’s free thus it’s easy to integrate, just a note:
The only reason we would charge is if you are a large corporation that uses a lot of our bandwidth, or if you require special services from us.
How much “a lot” is? I would prefer a clearer contract. Actually I would prefer an open development model.
jQuery, what a great peace of software… adding that to P4A gave us so many possibility we haven’t thought before, today with 4 lines of code I added the ajax file upload feature we were waiting for.
I also added some beautifications to popups and tooltips, but those were only some CSS things.
Anyway I hope we’ll be able to add more jQuery plugins ’cause things are getting really interesting :)
I thought that this morning just because yesterday I upgraded my brother’s PC from edgy to feisty… half an hour and he had his computer up and running with shining new software without a single problem and without having to configure anything. Nice experience.
