With the updated official Ubuntu ISO, it was time to rebuild all Ubuntu Mini Remix images, for both 32 and 64bit architectures, so here you have!
I finally take a bit of time to experiment generating a 64bit ISO image, I have no 64bit hardware so I used an Amazon EC2 instance (that was pretty cool!) to do the job so here you have, the Ubuntu Mini Remix has a new release ready for you to download, be sure to check it out!
You want to create your own Ubuntu Based distro but you don’t want to start from scratch? Ubuntu Mini Remix is the answer you’ll looking for!
It’s the smallest Ubuntu out there, only 133MB, fully functional, you can also use it as a rescue cd!
Working together with the Ubuntu trademarks team we renamed our Ubuntu derivatives:
- minibuntu becomes Ubuntu mini remix
- “ubuntu in italiano” becomes Ubuntu remix italiano (which is the Italian name for “Ubuntu Italian remix)
Following up the distrowatch’s story about Ubuntu trademarks, as the first Italian Ubuntu affiliate we (CreaLabs) are trying to be a good example of how FLOSS projects should respect trademark policies living in the FLOSS ecosystem.
I encourage all *buntu derivatives to take the good move and do what we did.
Just a day after the official Ubuntu 8.04 release I packed and uploaded the new minibuntu, go download it and start creating your own Ubuntu:
A few days ago a guy on UCK forum told me that he would need a clean Ubuntu livecd without all the bells and whistles, without gnome and all the graphic releated software, a sort of minimum system to build on his new Ubuntu derivate, starting from a clean base.
I thought it was a really good idea to publish the minimal Ubuntu package set packed in a small bootable livecd ISO image.
This is minibuntu, the base Ubuntu system, ready for your ingredients to cook your own Ubuntu derivative.
Hope you like the idea, please let me know what you think about that.
